DooWop in the Desert is an organization located in Las Vegas, Nevada made up of fans of Rock And Roll music
focusing on the years between 1954 and 1963. Many experts agree that this era encompasses the glory days of what we now call “Early R&B”,
“DooWop” or “Street Corner Harmony.” This would mean that we are currently celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the music that formed
“the soundtrack of our lives.”
One would think that living in the “entertainment capitol of the world” it would be easy to find an abundance of this
type of entertainment; sadly that is not the case. With few exceptions, most major Casino/Hotels seem unwilling to offer the “oldies” audience
much in the way of the music we cherish. Our age demographic (baby boomers) is no longer considered a viable target for advertisers. Evidence
of this can be found as FM radio stations all across the country abandon the format almost daily. Therefore, it was determined that a fan based
organization was necessary to fulfill our needs.
To that end, DooWop in the Desert was formed. Our aim is to provide our audience with the finest entertainment in
the form of established and nationally known performers along with local talent specializing in the DooWop sound. Our co-founders represent a
broad range of talented and dedicated individuals, all of whom have an avid love of the music and have pledged their time and effort in making
this organization succeed.
But the most important ingredient in this recipe is of course, you the local and visiting fans that will comprise the
audience for our shows and concerts. We ask your support not in the form of membership dues or fees but by spreading the word to any of your
friends and neighbors who may also be interested in “keeping the music alive.” We are looking for fans of all ages to be involved. We feel it is
equally important to cultivate new fans to this classic music style.
We will do our best to serve the needs of DooWop fans by providing them with information and events of
interest to them. Someone in a movie once said: “If you build it they will come.”
